← Back to the Turkey city atlas
This is part of the detailed Turkey city atlas for choosing where to live, relocate or spend a longer season. In Turkey, the exact neighbourhood, building, transport and registration situation matter as much as the city itself.
In this guide
Who is it suitable for?
Eskisehir is suitable for students, young people, those who want cheaper, safer, quieter, with cafes, trams and a university atmosphere. It’s one of Turkey’s nicer inland cities, but not an expat hub.
Districts
Tepebaşı. Students, cafes, universities, Porsuk, transport. The best start for young city life.
Odunpazarı. Historical area, beautiful, tourist streets, museums. To live, you need to choose a part that is not the most touristy.
Batıkent/Çamlıca/Vişnelik. More residential areas, quieter, families.
Where to be careful
Old houses without heating, noisy student streets, overly touristy areas of Odunpazarı.
Housing
Look at the heating: winter is cold. For students, the tram and the distance to the university are important. Prices are lower than large cities, but a good fund goes quickly.
Transport
The tram is a key plus. The city is quite compact. It is convenient to get to Istanbul/Ankara by train.
Cafe and food
Porsuk: cafe by the water.
Barlar Sokağı: bars and evening life.
Odunpazarı: small cafes, museums, walks.
Local food: çibörek.
Clinics
For ordinary life it is enough, there is university medicine. For complex cases – Ankara/Istanbul.
Little tricks
- A good city to integrate into the Turkish language.
- Don’t expect a big international community.
- An excellent option if the sea is not important, but the budget is important.
