← Back to the Turkey city atlas
This is part of the detailed Turkey city atlas for choosing where to live, relocate or spend a longer season. In Turkey, the exact neighbourhood, building, transport and registration situation matter as much as the city itself.
In this guide
Who is it suitable for?
Trabzon is suitable for those who love mountains, rain, the Black Sea, green nature, a more conservative Turkey and are not looking for an expat bubble.
Districts
Ortahisar. Center, work, transport, shops. Denser, noisier.
Yomra/Kaşüstü. New complexes, sea, shopping centers, airport closer. Often chosen for more modern housing.
Akçaabat. Quieter, coastal, food, families.
Pelitli. Airport, university, practical, but not beautiful for everyone.
Where to be careful
Dampness, mold, steep roads, areas without cars, houses too remote in the mountains.
Housing
Check humidity as the main risk. Good sea/mountain views may mean difficult access. Heating and ventilation are more important than repairs.
Cafe and food
Boztepe: tea, types.
Center: pide, köfte, local cafes.
Akçaabat: köfte.
Clinics
For a basic life it is enough, for a complex life – large cities. The language barrier is higher than in Antalya/Istanbul.
Little tricks
- Without Turkish it will be more difficult.
- Rain is a part of life, not a seasonal accident.
- Good choice for nature, bad for nightlife/expat environment.
