← Back to the Turkey city atlas
This is part of the detailed Turkey city atlas for choosing where to live, relocate or spend a longer season. In Turkey, the exact neighbourhood, building, transport and registration situation matter as much as the city itself.
In this guide
Who is it suitable for?
Adana is for those who love southern food, a big city, low prices, a hot climate and a more local Turkey. It’s not the obvious first choice for a foreigner, but can be a good choice for those who know why they’re going.
Districts
Çukurova. Better start: modern houses, families, cafes, more comfortable environment.
Seyhan. Center, business, transport, but the area is very different.
Yüreğir. Cheaper, requires careful selection.
Where to be careful
The heat is extreme. It’s hard without air conditioning in the summer. Areas vary greatly in safety and comfort.
Housing
Air conditioning, shade, quality windows, generator/electrics, parking. The seismic issue is also important.
Cafe and food
Adana kebap, şalgam, ciğer, bici bici. The city is strong in local food, not in “cute expat cafes”.
Clinics
For the region, medicine is not bad, there are large hospitals. For complex cases – Ankara/Istanbul.
Little tricks
- Before moving, live in the summer, not in the spring.
- Choose Çukurova as your starting area.
- The main feature of Adana is food and local energy, not international comfort.
