Seven Sisters and Eastbourne: Cliffs, Coastal Walks and a Beautiful Day Trip from London
This guide is for the day when you want more than a quick viewpoint: chalk cliffs, Cuckmere Haven, Birling Gap, Beachy Head, sea air and an easy finish in Eastbourne.

Do not force the whole route
The prettiest first-time plan is to start at Seaford Head, walk towards Cuckmere Haven, then decide based on weather and energy whether to continue to Birling Gap.
If you want less walking, go via Eastbourne and take the bus to Birling Gap. You still get cliffs, beach access, toilets, a cafe and short walks without turning the day into an endurance test.

Why it makes a good finish
Eastbourne softens the logistics: after the cliffs, you can walk by the sea, eat, get coffee or stay overnight instead of rushing back to London.
For a weekend version, look at seafront hotels such as The Grand Hotel for classic seaside style or Port Hotel for something more modern.

Cafes, pubs and useful stops
Plan food around Birling Gap, East Dean or Eastbourne. Save Birling Gap cafe, The Pilot Inn near Beachy Head and the pubs in East Dean if you want a cosier stop.
For the longer route, still bring water and snacks. There is not constant infrastructure between viewpoints, and windy days take more energy than expected.

What to check before leaving
Check trains on National Rail, buses on Brighton & Hove Buses, the weather forecast and tide times. If the forecast looks windy or wet, choose a shorter route instead of forcing the full coast.
